At Mandy Wu, we put much effort into constructing jewelry that are of high quality. Having said that, your Mandy Wu jewelry is still a piece of costume jewelry and requires your care.
Protect the jewelry from sharp blows to avoid bends and/or dents.
Limit the jewelry's contact with rough surfaces and other metals to avoid scratches.
Minimize the jewelry's exposure to direct heat and sunlight.
Minimize the jewelry’s exposure to chemicals (eg. by applying perfume or hair spray before you wear your jewelry).
Remove the jewelry before you swim or bathe to prevent contact with salt water, chlorine, and soap.
Remove the jewelry when exercising or doing strenuous activities.
The jewelry will inevitably tarnish over time with the oxidation increasing from contact with the skin.
To slow down the tarnishing of your costume jewelry, frequently clean it with a diluted solution of mild dishwashing liquid.
In the case of jewelry with faux leather components, be sure not to soak the material in water. Instead, damp a soft cloth and use it to clean the metal parts and/or wipe off any dirt from the faux leather components.
Dry the piece thoroughly with a soft cloth before storage.
To remove tarnish from gold- or silver-plated jewelry, only use a gentle commercial jewelry cleaner or a specialty polishing cloth. When using the polishing cloth, do not press down hard as you may wear off the gold layer. It is not recommended to use polish paste or other potentially abrasive agents since they can scratch or wear off the gold layer.
To remove tarnish from rhodium-plated jewelry, only use a specialty polishing cloth. When using the polishing cloth, do not press down hard or you may wear off the rhodium layer. Do not use any commercial jewelry cleaner or polish paste.
For jewelry with a patina/ oxidized finish, do not use any chemical agent, polishing cloth or polish paste.
Store your jewelry in a dry container or a re-sealable plastic bag.
As an additional measure to slow down tarnishing, you may wish to include a piece of anti-tarnish paper.
Store all jewelry individually so that it doesn’t get scratched by other jewelry.
Close all chains and lay them flat to prevent knots.
For strung jewelry and items made with faux leather cords, store them flat where possible to prevent stretching or distortion of the material over time.
To achieve the high quality of our costume jewelry, Mandy Wu applies platings that are thicker than the usual. However, most finishes (including patinas) will tarnish and/or fade off over time, especially with extensive wearing.
